BIAS Press / 偏差社

We are an independent press centred on the publications by East Asian female and queer artist, while also paying attention to marginalised groups and subcultures.

The name BIAS comes from survivorship bias, we question what’s left, and what’s missing.

The main visual identity is inspired from the Trolley Problem: a switch, a track, and the illusion of choice.
But you can always choose reading.

LESBIAN SLANG IN CHINESE

A6 riso printed zine & book, with orange and green ink, Crush corn paper 85gsm

Lesbian Slang in Chinese is a queer feminism publication project. It includes an A6 folded zine and a dictionary-style publication, both printed with risograph orange and green ink on Crushcorn paper.
The zine introduces six lesbian-related slang terms in Chinese, while the dictionary features 40 terms.
Some of these terms are derived from phonetic translations, while others originate from amusing anecdotes. In addition to the Chinese-speaking queer audience, the bilingual format expands the project's target audience to include English speakers who are unfamiliar with Chinese queer culture. It seeks to bridge cultural and linguistic divides through creative publishing methods. By translating and explaining these terms, I hope to foster greater understanding and connection across cultural and linguistic boundaries, ensuring that the voices and experiences of Chinese queer individuals are more widely accessible and appreciated.
